THE DISCO BISCUITS end their tour on Saturday, September 11^th in style at downtown Boston’s Bank of America Pavilion with Raekwon, RJD2 and MiM0SA. Other Massachusetts dates include Friday, September 10  at  Holyoke’s Mountain Park.

This will be a well deserved break for the Disco Biscuits, who in 2010, have crossed the threshold into the next level of venues around the country. The band returned to headline Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre for the 2nd year in a row. 2010 also saw performances at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Atlanta, Paper Mill Island Amphitheater in Syracuse NY and at Virginia’s Hampton Coliseum.

This summer the band held its  annual festival Camp Bisco 9 for  15,000 attendees  doubling the attendance from previous years.    The festival  drew accolades from the New York Times who called the Camp Bisco experience, “….A Festival of Its Own.”

Last night had to be the first time Jimmy Fallon ever heard an entire Slayer song. That is, if he didn’t run backstage and hide behind ?uestlove after the introduction. (Okay, testosterone posturing aside, much love to Jimmy for having, as he says, “one of the most legendary metal bands of all time” on his show).

In New York for two Tri-State-area stops on the American Carnage Tour, which also features Testament and Megadeth (tonight in upstate Glen Falls, N.Y. and tomorrow at New Jersey’s Izod Center), Slayer performed “Hate Worldwide,” one of the scorchers from their latest record, World Painted Blood.

There is much to do and see and eat and smell at Lollapalooza, a seemingly endless expanse of diverse attractions and concessions smacked improbably in the center of a major metropolis that offers surprises at every turn. Or, you can park your keester in one spot all day and let the entertainment come to you. Welcome to Lazypalooza.

The Sony Bloggie stage seemed to have the best potential for a sedentary Saturday afternoon — it’s in a relatively lush corner of Grant Park and had bands we wanted to see anyway. Plus, it’s fun to say “Bloggie.”

1:03 PM: With two albums called Free Drugs and Hippies, the Austin, Texas trio Harlem are perfectly engineered for festival work. Good humor, bare-bones Nuggets-y garage rock, constant energy as singers Michael Coomers and Curtis O’Hara switch off between guitar and drums. Despite the obscenely early (for young rock bands, anyway) hour, nothing sounded any more shambling than it was designed to, yet the band cut their set short one song, followed by Coomers tweeting, “That sucked.” Not sure what the problem was, looked like good, ragged fun to me.

1:48 PM: Grant Park has some drainage issues. All of Chicago’s mosquitoes are also spending their Lazypalooza at the Sony Bloggie stage.

1:50 PM: Does leaving the immediate premises to get a giant pulled pork sandwich and chocolate cream pie milkshake constitute a violation of Lazypalooza restrictions? Hoping not.

2:16 PM: Lollapalooza is kind of a sausage party, and that’s only partially because of Chicago’s fine tradition of hot dog and bratwurst stands. One of the few, if not the only band here with an all-female lineup, L.A.’s Warpaint draw out heavy-psych jams that don’t sound much like the Black Crowes album of the same name. Actress Shannyn Sossaman used to play drums, and her sister Jenny Lindberg is still the singer-bassist. The more you know!

After a brief break from their worldwide touring schedule, Dropkick Murphys will hit the road again this week for U.S. dates in Reno (August 5) and Las Vegas (August 6) and a stint on the Vans Warped Tour from August 7-15.

In other news, Dropkick Murphys continue their work with The Claddagh Fund (www.claddaghfund.org), the charity established by DKM founding member Ken Casey in support of non-profits that champion the causes of children, veterans and those suffering from alcohol and drug addiction.  The First Annual Claddagh Fund Celebrity Golf Tournament co-hosted by NHL Hall Of Famer Bobby Orr will take place September 10 in Falmouth, Massachusetts.  Play is offered at two incredible courses: The Golf Club of Cape Cod and Ballymeade Country Club, with an awards reception dinner to follow with prizes, an auction, and a shoot out finale with the top shooters from both courses. Ken Casey and co-host Bobby Orr will be joined by additional celebrity guests at the event which will raise money for The Claddagh Fund.

The big headline of the just-released 2010 MTV Video Music Awards nominations is the fact that Lady Gaga is all over the place. The clips for “Bad Romance” and “Telephone” are both nominated (including a Video of the Year nod for each), and Beyoncé’s “Video Phone (Extended Remix)” — which prominently features Gaga — also scored some nods. Considering how much she has done for the music video world in the past year, it’s no surprise that she would figure so prominently in this year’s version of the show, which promises — as always — to be one of the biggest, loudest, most memorable parties of the year. In fact, get to work voting for the winners now.

But Gaga isn’t the only artist multi-tasking this year. B.o.B has two clips nominated (both “Nothin’ on You” and “Airplanes” scored nods), and Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams is also in two different places on the nominations board. Her band’s “Ignorance” is nominated for Best Rock Video (a solid category that also features 30 Seconds to Mars, Muse, MGMT and Florence and the Machine) and she is also part of the nominations that B.o.B received for “Airplanes” (including a bid for Video of the Year).

Soundgarden are returning to the live stage in a big way at this weekend’s Lollapalooza, but they’ve also got a new career retrospective on the way: Telephantasm will feature hits, rarities, videos, and “Black Rain,” a previously unreleased song.

The collection arrives September 28, but in an unconventional format: The single-disc, 12-song version of Telephantasm — packed with 11 of the band’s biggest hits including “Black Hole Sun,” “Spoonman,” and “Outshined,” plus “Black Rain” — will be bundled with 1 million copies of the new videogame, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, which goes onsale that day. After a week, on October 5, the single-disc version will be available at conventional retailers, by itself.

Fans who purchase the video game/album bundle will have instant access to downloadable Soundgarden content for Guitar Hero.

As for “Black Rain,” it’s an outtake from the sessions for 1991’s Badmotorfinger, and singer Chris Cornell recently recorded some new vocals that were mixed into the original song. “What’s amazing,” producer-engineer Adam Kasper tells SPIN, “is Chris recorded new vocal bits, and his voice still hits all those notes. You can’t tell which vocals are from 20 years ago and which are from today.”

For the non-gamers, two deluxe versions of Telephantasm will hit stores on September 28: A three-disc, CD/DVD combo that includes two albums of hits, b-sides, and rarities, plus a DVD with every Soundgarden music video, including some rare edits and foreign versions; and a “super deluxe edition” that bundles the CD/DVD combo with three discs of heavy vinyl and special collector’s packaging.
