L.A.’s most successful indie band goes from playing in front of Spaceland’s shimmery curtain to the Staples Center.

The Silversun Pickups are the local indie embodiment of the famous quote from the Irish writer Samuel Beckett: “Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.”  Bands should be so lucky to experience such crushing defeats: The heroes of the Silver Lake scene, the fiery but focused Silversun Pickups are competing against acts including MGMT, the Ting Tings, the Zac Brown Band and R&B mistress Keri Hilson for the best new artist prize at this year’s Grammy Awards ceremony, set to take place next Sunday in L.A.  It’s recognition that’s been a long time coming. Since the early aughts, local prognosticators have been attempting to divine, largely unsuccessfully, which of the bands toiling in the Silver Lake/Echo Park circuit were most likely to achieve mainstream success.

GODSMACK is putting the finishing touches on its new album, “Saints & Sinners”., for a tentative spring release. The CD is being produced by Dave Fortman, who has previously worked with EVANESCENCE, SLIPKNOT and MUDVAYNE, among others.

Rockpit has created a series of 15 webisodes for GODSMACK fans describing the process, rituals and methodology of making an album. A new webisode will be released every Friday, and each will run about seven minutes, filled with exclusive content, behind-the-scenes footage, interviews and sneak peeks at theband’s newest songs.

We caught up with STEVE “LIPS” KUDLOW (lead vocals/lead guitarist), ROBB REINER (drums), and GLENN FIVE (bass/backing vocals) of ANVIL backstage at the House of Blues in Boston after the band arrived from Los Angeles after attending the Critics Choice Awards. Their rockumentary ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL was nominated for ‘Best Documentary.’

Police are searching for a “possible suspect” regarding the Jan. 13 death of the punk rocker, according to My Fox Memphis. No other details were immediately available.

Reteard – aka the 29-year-old Jimmy Lindsey Jr. – was found dead in his home. Police said they were investigating the possibility of a homicide but coupled that with the caution it is standard operating procedure.

Now police are suggesting anyone who may have information that can lead to an arrest call Crime Stoppers, visit 528cash.org or text information via cell phone. There is also a cash reward of up to $1,000.
